Charles A. Dean, Jr., 83, of Juniata Terrace, Lewistown, passed away at 3:50 a.m., Monday, February 26, 2018, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born April 11, 1934, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Charles A., Sr. and Hazel (Wilson) Dean.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Nathan McNitt.
Charles is survived by: his wife, Violet (Price) Dean; children, Cindy McNitt, of Mifflintown, Christine Waite and husband, Terry, of Arch Rock, Mifflintown, Candy Cruz and husband, Jose’ and Cherie Rosebush and husband, Vance, both of Orlando, and Charles Dean III and wife, Krystal, of Yeagertown; nine grandchildren, Amy, Beau, Joseito, Lance, Ryan, Stevie, Alex, Ben, and Anthony; and a great-granddaughter, Makayla.
Charles was an Army veteran assigned to the 176th Armored Field Battalion from August 1950-April 1952, with 13 months served overseas during the Korean Conflict. He also served with the Pennsylvania National Guard.
He was a member of Evangel Baptist Church, Lewistown.
Charles retired as a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was especially close to Nathan. He was an avid Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Thurs., March 1, at Juniata Memorial Park, with Rev. Bill Howe officiating. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown.
