Dennis E. Reed, 70, of Lewistown, passed away unexpectedly at 9:54 p.m., Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

Born February 4, 1947, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Morris L. and Gladys W. (Searer) Reed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Deanna L. Reed, whom he married Aug. 14, 1965, on Dec. 16, 2017.  He was also preceded in death by his sister, Deborah J. Henry; and brother-in-law, Bob Henry.

Dennis is survived by:  two sons; Dennis Gregg Reed and wife, Sher’ree, of Fairborn, Ohio and their children, Heather Huelseman and husband, Ben, Chad Reed; a great-granddaughter, Caitlynn Huelseman; and Derk A. Reed and wife, Deanna, of Danville, and their children, Darbee Reed and Mitchell Reed; and three nephews.

He graduated from Kishacoquillas High School, Class of 1965.

He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lewistown.

Dennis retired from Standard Steel Machine Shop I, on April 1, 2009, with 43 1/2 years of service.

Denny was involved in youth baseball for many years and enjoyed coaching Yeagertown Babe Ruth.  He enjoyed spending time with family, but especially treasured the times spent with his grandchildren and great-granddaughter, Caitlynn.  Family trips to Gatlinburg, Tenn., Ocean City, Md., Baltimore, Md. Inner Harbor, Myrtle Beach, S. Carolina, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, Hawaii, and a Carnival Cruise to the Caribbean will be fondly remembered by all.  Denny was also an avid fisherman and golfer and was involved in his monthly class luncheons.

In the end, this is a truly rare love story that resulted in Denny’s passing from broken heart syndrome after losing his wife of 52 years, Deanna.  Denny was surrounded by family at the time of his passing.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 29, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, 108 First Ave., Burnham.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., Dec. 30, at the funeral home, with Rev. Jerri Carlin officiating.

Interment will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy.
