Donald L. Baker passed away Saturday, February 24, 2018.
Born November 23, 1923, in Lewistown, he was the son of Howard Baker and Ida M. (Price) Baker. Donald is survived by: his wife, Anna Mae (Dock) Baker, whom he married September 11, 1954; daughters, DoAnn E. Keller, Reedsville; Gayle L. Baker-Gaydos, and husband, Kevin J.Gaydos, of West Grove; Elaine T. Benner, and husband William E. Benner, Jr., of Lancaster; and Tara J Diffenbaugh, of Frederick, MD.; grandchildren Alex Gaydos; Lauren (Benner) Rinier, Bill Benner; Josh Diffenbaugh, and Abbey Diffenbaugh; great-grandsons Jackson and Hudson Rinier.
He was predeceased by brothers: William C. Baker, Walter E. Baker, Ralph R. Baker, Alfred H. Baker, David H. Baker, and Marvin L. Baker; sisters: Helen M. Baker, Ruth D. Wertz, Pauline F. Palm, and Arlene E. Parks. He is survived by his sister, Lillian I. Russler.
Donald retired as a buyer for Fisher Electronics.
He was a member of the Burnham Lions Club. As a club member he chained the “Eyeglass Recycling Program” collecting over 92,000 pairs. He was a founding board member of the former Mid-State RC&D Council, now known as Community Partnerships RC&D Council contributing to many of the organization’s first projects. He also served as a director of the local PA Clean Ways cleaning up a number of illegal dump sites in the county. He was a director and member of the Mifflin County Conservation District working along side DEP, EPA, and the Chesapeake Bay Program. He was the 2005 recipient of the Mifflin County Round Table of Christians & Jews Brotherhood Award.
He was a veteran of World War II, being honorably discharged as a PFC from the U.S. Army. He was an active member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Lewistown. Donald attended Derry High School in Yeagertown.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, 108 First Avenue, Burnham. There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Teresa Hockenberry officiating. Interment will take place with military honors at Juniata Memorial Park.
