Donald H. Doebler, Sr., 83, of Lewistown passed away at 2:27 a.m., Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born March 28, 1934 in Penns Creek, Snyder County, he was a son of the late Celia E. (Loss) and Clarence A. Doebler. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by: two brothers, Forrest Wayne Doebler and Rudolph R. Doebler; and daughter, Robin G. Doebler; and son, Terry Lee Doebler.
He is survived by: his wife Freida M. (Hackenberg) Doebler, whom he married Sept. 6, 1959; children, Donald H. Doebler, Jr. and wife, Laura, of Virginia, Kevin L. Doebler, of Lewistown, Tina M. Howard and husband, Jackie, of Virginia, Brian D. Doebler, of Lewistown, and Faith D. Doebler of Lewistown; six grandchildren, Daniel Doebler, and wife, Chelsea, Daisy Howard, Isaac Howard, Joshua Howard, David Doebler and Lily Doebler, all of Lynchburg, Virginia; one great-granddaughter, Nora Doebler; and a sister-in-law, Grace Goss.
Don was a graduate of Derry High School, Class of 1951 and Shippensburg University, Class of 1962.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958.
Mr. Doebler was a sixth grade teacher in the Mifflin County School District.
He was a member of Ellen Chapel Church and served as a Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed studying and reading the Bible. He also enjoyed spending time with friends, going fishing, hunting and working on Jumble crosswords in the paper. Don was devoted to his family.
Viewings will be held from 6 – 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22 at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Inc., Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown and from 11 a.m. – noon, Saturday, Sept. 23 at Ellen Chapel Church. A funeral service will be held at noon, Sat. Sept. 23 at the church with Pastor Mark Hill officiating.
Interment will take place in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Middleburg.
