Elta M. Lauver, 79, of Lewistown died at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015 at Ohesson Manor.

Born December 22, 1935 in Oakland Mills, Juniata County she was a daughter of the late Donald E. and Esther (Shelley) Lauver.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her brother, Donald S. Lauver.

She is survived by: her sister, Twila J. Finkbiner and husband, Jay, of McAlisterville; sister-in-law, Roxie Lauver, of Mifflintown;  nieces and nephews, Brenda Auker and husband, Daniel, Craig Finkbiner and wife, Beth, Laurie Belote and husband, David, and Roger Gross and wife, Migdalia; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Elta was a graduate of Lancaster Mennonite High School and Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing, 1957.

Elta worked as a nurse at Lewistown Hospital from 1957 until 1995.  She became head nurse in 1961 and was instrumental in opening the first orthopedic unit on the fourth floor at the hospital.  During her thirty plus years of working in health care, she gained a loving, caring, and supportive style of interacting with people.

She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church where she served on numerous committees. Elta volunteered at Mifflin-Juniata Area Agency on Aging, Habitat for Humanity, Kid Connection, Mifflin County Probation Office, Shelter Services and Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard. For her involvement in the community, Elta received the Community Brotherhood Citation Award in 2010.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 8 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 21 S. Main St. Lewistown with The Rev. Canon Robyn Szoke-Coolidge officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 7 at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown.

Interment will take place in the Columbarium at St. Mark’s Church.
