Glen L. Bilger, 88, of Lewistown, passed away at 3:56 p.m., Thursday, January 19, 2017 at William Penn.

Born April 11, 1928, in Black Log, Juniata County, he was a son of the late Mabel (Bilger) and Roy Bilger.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert W. Bilger and sisters, Betty Ross and Lois Watson.

Glen is survived by: his wife, Carmen L. (Lash) Bilger, whom he married on March 14, 1959; children, Carol Cummings, of Lewistown, Glenda Palmer and wife, Joan, of Shelton, Wash., and Roberta “Robbie” Cavanaugh and husband, Michael, of Port Royal; grandchildren, Caitlin “Cat” Cummings, of Lewistown, Justin Bowersox and wife, Jessica, of Carlisle, Nathaniel “Nate” Bowersox, of Pullman, Wash., Kirsten Cavanaugh, of Port Royal, and Michael Cavanaugh II, of State College; great-granddaughter, Myelyn Bowersox; and a sister, Gloria Bramlett, of Tennessee.

He was an Army veteran who served during the Korean Conflict and was also in the  Pennsylvania National Guard.

He was owner and operator of the East End Cycle Shop in Lewistown.  Glen previously worked at the American Viscose Corporation for 15 years and at Standard Steel, Machine Shop No. 1, for 27 years, retiring in 1990.  Upon retirement, he worked at The (Lewistown) Sentinel and was a volunteer driver for the Disabled American Veterans.

Glen was a member of the Lewistown Lodge No. 203 Free and Accepted Masons;  Lewistown Council Chapter Consistory, Harrisburg, where he was a 32nd degree Mason; Lewistown Commandery No. 26; Lewistown Chapter No. 186 (Royal Arch Masons); Juniata Valley Council No. 64; Loyal Order of Moose No. 143; American Legion Logan General Post No. 90; 50-year member of United Commercial Traveler’s Council No. 729; life member of City Hook and Ladder Fire Company; and former member of Jaffa Shrine; Mifflin County Shrine Club; and Tall Cedars of Lebanon No. 88.

 He was one of the original members of the “Midnight Riders” cycle group in Lewistown.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Randy Traxler officiating.  A special Masonic service will be held immediately prior to the funeral service.  

A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 22, at the funeral home.

Interment will take place in Juniata Memorial Park, with military honors by VFW Post 7011.     

The family will provide all flowers.  Memorial contributions in Glen’s name may be made to the Central PA Parkinson’s Support Group, 142 Fawn Rd., Reedsville, PA 17084, or to a charity of one’s choice.
