Harry G. “Bud” Harbst, 90, passed away Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018 in Harrisburg.
He was the son of Arthur and Mae Ida (Wagner) Harbst.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth E. Harbst; stepchildren, David Clark, and Bobby Clark.
Harry is survived by: wife, Georgia M. (Howard) Harbst; children; Janice L. Fryer and husband, William C., of New Cumberland; Scott A. Harbst; of Middletown; Georgia L. Marston, and husband Tom, of Carlisle; Robin E. Goodman, and husband William, of Harrisburg; stepchildren, Martha Bean, and husband Richard, of Florida; Steven Gibson, and husband Daniel, of Tennessee; Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren that he dearly loved.
Harry entered the Navy and boarded the USS Princeton (CV-37) in 1950 in Philadelphia and headed off to the Korean coast ready to battle. Harry worked at the Standard Steel earlier in life. Harry enjoyed baking and worked at Beavers Bakery. He also worked as a security guard for the state at the Farm Show Building. Some of his hobbies include watching old western movies, gardening, bird watching and had a large fish aquarium that he enjoyed. He was a member of the American Legion in Lewistown, where he participated in the drum and bugle corps, and marched along with the American Legion Sweethearts. He loved spending time with his family. Harry was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Viewings will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, and from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Randy Traxler officiating.
Interment will take place at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
