Helen I. (Fisher) Sunderland, 95, formerly of State Route 103 N., Lewistown, passed to her heavenly home at 9:35 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017.

Born July 25, 1922 in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Lee R. Fisher and Clara E. (Buchanan) Fisher.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Ora H. Sunderland, whom she married April 21, 1945; a granddaughter, Erika Bell; and Dwight E. Fisher who was raised as a brother.

She is survived by: her daughters, Judith Goss and husband, Larry, Pamela Eberman and husband, Kenneth, Dana Bell and husband, Jeffrey, and Nina Angney and husband, Charles "Bump", all of Lewistown; grandchildren, Jason Goss and wife, Carey, Erin Leister, Megan Tate and companion, Lester Link, Hillary Benny and husband, Ryan, Jarrod Bell, Ty Angney, Jordan Bell and Jonathan Bell; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Helen graduated from Lewistown High School, class of 1940.

Earlier in life, she worked at the Mifflin County Bank, Lewistown, the YMCA, and was owner/operator of Ora’s Café in McVeytown along with her husband.

She was a member of Granville U.M.C. and attended Maitland Church of the Brethren. She also was a member of Mifflin County Bi-Centennial Committee, Senior Extension, and Salvation Army Board.

Helen was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her lifelong passion was to support her daughters in their various pursuits including 4-H, band, and girl scouts. She was blessed to have made many lifelong friends along the way. She took great pride in her grandchildren and the fact that all of her grandchildren graduated from college. Helen graciously opened her home to friends, family and the occasional stranger. She will be remembered for her warm smile and loving kindness. Everything she did in life was out of love for her family.

Viewings will be held from 5 – 8:00 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 22 at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Inc., Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown and from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 23 at the Maitland Church.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 23 at Maitland Church of the Brethren, 315 Crossover Drive, Lewistown with Rev. Charles Eldredge and Rev. R. Jeffrey Fisher officiating with interment to follow in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.
