Howard E. Eckley

Howard E. Eckley, 78, of Milroy, died at 6:32 p.m., Friday, June 24, 2016, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

Born May 16, 1938, in Siglerville, he was a son of the late Dorothy (Bubb) and Ernest Eckley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Woods, on Nov. 25, 2000.

His wife, Betty (Gearhart) Eckley, whom he married on Nov. 28, 1959, survives.

Also surviving are two daughters; Kathy Reed and husband, John, of Lewistown, and Michelle Shaffer and husband, Russell, of Milroy, five grandchildren; Isaiah, Olivia, Dominic, and Dupree Reed, and Matthew Shaffer and wife, Diana, two great-grandchildren; Zoey and "King" Richard Shaffer, eight siblings;

John W. Eckley, Sr. and wife, Linda, of Milroy,, Lottie Stimely and husband, Richard, of Lewistown, James K. Eckley and wife, Jean, of Milroy, Janice Peachey and husband, Loren, of Burnham, Ralph Eckley and wife, Paula, of Milroy, Harold Eckley and wife, Carol, of Allensville, Thomas Eckley and wife, Linda, and Nancy Seaholtz and husband, David, both of Milroy.

Howard graduated from Armagh/Brown High School in 1956.

He attended Salem United Methodist Church in New Lancaster Valley.

Early in life, he worked at Ed Henry's sawmill and later retired from Standard Steel after 36 years.

He was an avid Penn State fan, enjoyed watching NASCAR, fishing, and hunting.  He was an excellent cook, loving husband, father, and grandfather, and loved his faithful chihuahua companion, Princess.  Howard will be sadly missed by many.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with Pastor Crystal Baumgardner officiating.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, at the funeral home.

Interment will take place in Church Hill Cemetery, Reedsville.
