John W. Gingrich, Sr., age 101, of Burnham went to be with his Lord and Savior at 3:40 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2016 at Brookline Manor, Mifflintown.
Born July 12, 1915 in Mifflintown he was a son of the late Jennie P. (Leyder) and Greely H. Gingrich.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by: his wife, Mae E. (Beaver) Gingrich, on Jan. 6, 2000; a son, John W. Gingrich, Jr., on Aug. 17. 2001; four brothers, Carl, Paul, Clair and James Gingrich; and four sisters, Viola Garris, Ruth Wolgemuth, Gertrude Bowers and Martha Stern.
He is survived by: two daughters, Mary Jane Capriotti and Susan M. Harpster and her husband, Tommy, all of Burnham; her sister, Jane Stuck, of McAlisterville; five grandchildren, David Howey and wife, Donna, of Easton, Michele Wagner and husband, Tim of Easton, Amy Koenig and husband, Rick, of Germansville, Matthew Harpster and wife, Jennifer, of Burnham and John Howey and wife, Amee, of Easton; and five great-grandchildren, Michael Koenig, Matthew Koenig, Kaitlyn Harpster, Michael Howey and Cade Harpster.
Earlier in life he was a salesman for Beaver Brothers Bakery.
He was a member of the Calvary Bible Church, Burnham Lions Club, and Burnham Fire Co. John served on the Burnham Borough Council for 20 years. He enjoyed hunting.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1 at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Inc., 108 First Ave., Burnham with Rev. Howard Houtz officiating.
A viewing will be held from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Interment will take place in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.
