John H. Harbst

John H. Harbst, 90, of Lewistown, passed away, Sunday, April 8, 2018, at William Penn.

Born October 15, 1927, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Jacob A. and Cora (Reeder) Harbst.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherise Y. Pelizzari; brother, Donald A. Harbst; and grandson Brett Pelizzari.

John is survived by; wife, Glenda N. (Randolph) Harbst, whom he married on April 5, 1953; children, Martin K. Harbst, of Lewistown, Dwain K. Harbst, of Altoona; sister, Mary Kathryn White, and husband, Albert, of Lewistown; grandchildren, Gina Horn, Nathan Harbst, Treavor Harbst, Adeena Harbst; six great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, John Pelizzari, of Lewistown.

John served our country in both the Army and the Navy from October 1945 to March, 1953, then went on to work for the Standard Steel, retiring after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Ellen Chapel Church, a member of the United Steelworks of America Local 1940 and a former member of the Fort Granville Grange. John was an avid fisherman. He loved spending time with his family.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, 108 First Ave., Burnham, with Pastor Mark Hill officiating.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, 2018 and from 10-11 am., prior to the service, Thursday, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, 108 First Ave., Burnham.

Interment will be held with military honors by VFW Post 7011 at Juniata Memorial Park.
