Marjorie Ruble Caldwell, 97, of Lewistown, passed into God’s arms on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017.

She was born on Jan. 6, 1920 in Strodes Mills, and was a lifelong resident of Lewistown.  Marj lived on the family farm located on Caldwell Hill Road.  She was the daughter of the late Frank Guyer and Elizabeth (Ruble) Caldwell.

She was a lifetime member of the Lewistown Presbyterian Church where she served in many positions: treasurer, Board of Trustees, elder and clerk of session.  Marj was also a Sunday and Vacation Bible School teacher, and a member of Presbyterian Women.

Marj worked 55 years for U.S. Silica, and prior to this, she worked at the Lewistown High School office for seven  years.   In her later years, she was active with Meals on Wheels, planning and cooking meals and coordinating deliveries.  She was a founding member of the Mount Rock Cemetery Board.

She was an avid gardener, cook, seamstress and knitter.   Marj was proud to serve as keeper of her family’s history and heritage, always ready with a funny story or wise anecdote.

She was a beloved aunt to her many nieces and nephews, but also known to the community as “Aunt Marj”.

Marj is survived by sister, Margaret Morton, of Mobile, Ala.  She was preceded in death by sisters Doris Caldwell Rhoades and Frances Jeanne Saylor.  She is survived by her many nieces and nephews, and their families, who considered her their ‘second mother’.

The family would like to thank the staff of Ohesson Manor for their kindness and care in Marj’s final days.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 27 at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. Robert Zorn officiating.  Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26, at the funeral home.  Interment will take place in Mt. Rock Cemetery.
