Melvin L. "Shorty" Bressler, 95, a resident of Valley View Haven, Belleville, and formerly of W. 4th St., Lewistown, died at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015 at Valley View.
Born Oct. 4, 1920, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Martin L. and Susan Bressler. His wife, Bertha E. (Shehan) Bressler, whom he married April 2, 1966, survives.
He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Helen Kenawell, of Reedsville, and a niece, Pam Simpson and husband, Luke, of Littlestown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Orville, and sisters, Helen and Hazel.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in North Africa, Sicily and the Battle of the Bulge, receiving a Silver Star and Purple Heart.
Shorty was employed at Fisher's Electronics and was an avid walker.
His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with Pastor Randy Traxler officiating.
Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park with military graveside honors by VFW Post 7011.
Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. Tuesday until time of the service at the funeral home.
