Norman E. Wert, Sr., 79, of New Lancaster Valley, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 12:55 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2015.
Born on Jan. 9, 1936 in New Lancaster Valley, he was a son of the late Brown M. and Annie (Eastwood) Wert.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: his wife, Carrie (Gonsman) Wert, whom he married on Dec. 23, 1961, on July 12, 2010; five brothers, Kenny, Arthur, William, George and Glenn; three sisters, Irma Schultz, Madaline Hassinger and Mary Heimbach; and infant sisters.
Norman is survived by: his children, Norman E. Wert, Jr. and wife, Kelly (Keisling), of Milroy, Jeffrey L. Wert and wife, Donna (Underhill), of New Lancaster Valley, Michelle R. McCoy and husband, Michael, of Milroy and Tami Lee Wert and companion, Glen Druckemiller Jr., of New Lancaster Valley; his siblings, Sarah Scyoc, of Lewistown, Curtis Wert and wife, Nancy, and Victoria Thompson and husband, Larry, both of Milroy; nine grandchildren, Brandi Kohan and husband, Jon, Brianna Wert, Samantha Wert, Jessie Wert, Miriah Wilson and husband, Andrew, Mazie McCoy, Mikaela McCoy, Malachi Wert and Tasha Wert; six great-grandchildren, Mason, Callie, Ashlynn and Carter Kohan, Easton Wert, Jace Wright, and baby Wilson on the way.
Norman had worked in the ring mill department at Standard Steel, Burnham for 33 years, retiring in 1998.
He attended Milroy C&MA Church, and later, Salem United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the United Steelworkers Local 1940 and New Lancaster Valley Volunteer Fire Company.
Norman was an avid hunter, outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time with his family and had hosted “Normans Woods” for many years.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 6 at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown with Rev. Robert Zorn officiating.
A viewing will be held from 6 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 5 at the funeral home.
Interment will take place in Salem United Methodist Cemetery, New Lancaster Valley.
