Walter James Downing, Jr., 94 of Lewistown died at 7:45 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015 at Malta Home.
Born April 10, 1921 in Waterstreet, Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late Alma M. (Carper) and Walter James Downing, Sr.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: his wife of 71 years of marriage, Annis Leanore (Mellott) Downing; a great-great granddaughter, Audrina; brother, William Downing; and a sister, Virginia Sheaffer.
Walter is survived by daughters Debra Smoker and Annis "Twink" Downing, both of Lewistown.
He was a 1939 graduate of Yeagertown High School.
Earlier in life he drove truck for Lewistown and Milroy Dry Cleaners. Later, he worked as a steel worker retiring from Standard Steel, Burnham.
Walter was a member of Rhodes Memorial Church.
He was a member of the Moose, Lone Pine Camp, UCT, and a lifetime member of Blue Juniata Beagle Club. Walter enjoyed going to camp with his family and playing games.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 15, at Rhodes Memorial Church with Rev. Carola Beasley-Topliffe officiating.
