Alan K. Birch, Sr.

Alan K. “Smoke” Birch Sr., 81, of Lewistown, passed away Friday, Dec. 27, 2019, at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

Born Oct. 28, 1938, in Burnham, he was a son of the late Walter and Ethel (Daffner) Birch.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William R. Birch.

He is survived by: wife, Evelyn M. (Yohn) Birch, who he married June 30, 1958; children, Cathy Walker and husband, Neal, of Lewistown, Alan K. Birch II and wife, Beth, of Lewistown, Margaret Yetter and companion, Albert Johnson, of Lewistown; six grandchildren, Kierstin Walker and husband, Dane Wilburne, Mckenzee Walker and husband, Tyler Hamler, Joseph Birch and wife, Hannah, Alan E. Birch and fiance, Haley Kipp, Zane Frey and fiance, Olivia Riden, and Kortlin Yetter; and five great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald D. Birch and wife, Judy, of Washington; and an aunt, Anna Mae Patterman, of Colorado.

Alan was a Chief Logan High School graduate, Class of 1957.

He worked at Noerr’s garage and retired in 2011 after 30 years of service.

Alan was a member of the Model A Club and a lifetime member of the Brooklyn Hose Co. He enjoyed cruising around Lewistown in his Ford Model A car, fishing, and hunting, woodworking, and gardening. Smoke loved traveling and taking long Sunday drives.

A receiving of friends will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.
