Barbara R. Heath, 89, formerly of Lewistown and York, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village Personal Care, Lewisburg.

Born Oct. 4, 1928 in York, she was a daughter of the late Ruth (Bott) and Vernon D. Heilman.

She is survived by: her husband, of 66 years, Robert J. Heath Jr., of Lewisburg; her children, Michael R. Heath, of Bridgeport, Rebecca Deljanovan and husband, Thomas, of South Williamsport, and Karolyn E. Rayman and husband, Edgar, of Camp Hill; seven grandchildren, Timothy Deljanovan and wife, Paige, Elizabeth Deljanovan, Ted Deljanovan, Daniel and Kathryn Heath, Breanna and Marissa Rayman;  one great-granddaughter, Tatum Deljanovan; a brother, Donald B. Heilman, of Reading;  a sister, Jean Throne, of York; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Barb was a graduate of York High School, Class of 1946, and West Chester University, earning a bachelor’s degree in education.

She was a school teacher at the following locations: York, West York and Lewistown. She retired from the Mifflin County School District in 1971.

Barb was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ; where she sang in the choir and was a past Sunday school teacher.

Barb loved her longtime friends from York and Lewistown and the fun they had. Highlights from those years included her Penn State tailgate crew “the Farquel Family” and her YMCA ladies called the “menopausal mermaids.” She was a storyteller and she loved to tell jokes.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Trinity United Church of Christ, 20 Oak St., Lewistown, with Rev. Teresa Hockenberry officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church, and will provide all flowers.  Feel free to celebrate Barbara's life dressed in your favorite Penn State blue and white attire.

In memorial, do a good deed, hug a friend, say a prayer or perform an act of kindness.

Interment will take place at a future date in Greenmount Cemetery, York.
