Carl L. Macknair, 91, of McClure, Mifflin County, passed away at 3:11 p.m., Saturday, April 15, 2017, at William Penn Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Lewistown.

Born Jan. 15, 1926, in McClure, he was a son of the late Walter S. and Roxie (Krepps) Macknair.    

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Bernice (Kuhns) Macknair on July 23, 2015, whom he married May 22, 1948; an infant daughter; and brothers, George and Jay Macknair.    

Carl is survived by: his children, Carol A. Cohenour and husband, Richard, of Three Springs, David L. Macknair and wife, Deborah, and Jay Edwin “Ed” Macknair and companion, Evelyn Houser, all of McClure, Joyce Struble and husband, Timothy, of Curwensville; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and siblings, Blaine W. Macknair, of Lewistown, Robin Macknair and wife, Carol, of McClure, Gloria Bowersox and husband, Archie, and Hazel Epperson and husband, Richard, both of Lewistown,  Gay Shilling and husband, Paul, of South Carolina, Paul Macknair, of Lewistown, Darlene Hinkle and husband, Malcolm, of Silver Creek, Ore., Reed Ivan Macknair and wife, Melanie, of Lewistown, and Doreen Long and husband, Kenneth, of Schuykill Haven.

Carl was an Army veteran and served during World War II and the Korean Conflict.  He  was also employed as a mechanic for the U.S. Army National Guard in Lewistown for 39 years, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of the Dormantown Lutheran Church, now known as St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, McClure.

He was also a dedicated member of Lewistown Moose Lodge No. 143; Alfarata Lions Club; American Legion Post 942, McClure; Decatur Fire Co. No. 5; McClure Fire Co. No. 40; Decatur Grange No. 1920; United Commercial Travelers; and the Mifflin County Farm Bureau Association.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with the Rev. William Kuhn officiating.    

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 17, at the funeral home.

Interment will take place in Maitland Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Lewistown, with military honors provided by VFW Post 7011.
