Carl F. “Jack” Royer, 96, of McVeytown, passed away at 3:48 a.m., Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Valley View Haven, Belleville.
Born September 26, 1920, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Emmitt B. and Ruth (Wolfy) Royer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: a brother, Emmett Royer; and two sisters, Marjorie Mitchell and Pauline Barlett.
Carl is survived by: his wife, Mary G. (Edgin) Royer, whom he married Oct. 28, 1947; five children, Linda M. Walters and husband, William, of Lewistown, Carl G. “Butch” Royer and companion, Nancy Duncan, of McVeytown, Connie K. Yoder and companion, Jimmy King, of Belleville, Brian L. “Chip” Royer and wife, Melissa, of McVeytown, and a daughter, Beverly Lucas, from a previous marriage, and her family; four grandchildren, Chadd Walters, Shelby Caruso and husband, Frank, Todd Yoder and wife, Nicole, and Megan Dietz and husband, Cale; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter.
Carl was a World War II Army veteran who served in the European Theatre from 1942-45.
He attended the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Lockport.
Early in life, he was employed at the American Viscose Corporation for 27 years prior to its closing in 1972. He later was a machinist at Overhead Door Corporation for 12 years before retiring in 1984.
Jack was a charter member of the West Granville Fire Company and their oldest living member. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and owned the White Oak Camp. He was a staunch supporter of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles and enjoyed watching their games.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with Pastor Stephen J. Rynkewitz, Jr. officiating.
A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, at the funeral home.
Interment will take place at Juniata Memorial Park with military honors provided by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown.
