Diane Mary Hallinan, 66, died peacefully at her home in Lewistown on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, after an eighteen-month courageous battle with uterine cancer. 

Born Aug. 21, 1951, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Jack E. and Doris I.  Becker.  At age 12, the family moved to Hollidaysburg.

On Oct. 13, 1973, Diane married Anthony G. Hallinan, her surviving husband, at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church in Hollidaysburg.  In addition to her husband, Diane is survived by: sons, Jon of San Diego, Calif., and Scott and his wife, Christina, of Lewistown; grandsons, Jeremiah and Jordan of San Antonio, Texas, Clark of San Diego; granddaughters, Eliana and Luciana of Lewistown; and siblings, Linda O’Leary and husband, David Michael, Jaye Ramey and husband, Steven, and John Becker and wife, Jane.    

Diane was a 1969 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School, and attended the Pennsylvania State University Altoona and University Park campuses, graduating in 1972 with a degree in elementary education.  In 1977, she completed her master’s degree in developmental and remedial reading.  In 2003, Diane received administrative certification from Shippensburg University.  

She taught elementary and middle school reading in the Mifflin County School District, and later transferred to the Midd-West School District in Middleburg, where she served as an elementary principal and director of federal programs.  After retirement in 2009, Diane worked part-time for the PA Dept. of Education until 2016.

Diane was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Lewistown, where she served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Holy Eucharist, on the Liturgy Committee, as a church sacristan, and on the Sacred Heart School Board.  She was deeply committed to the Catholic faith throughout her life.

Viewings will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 21, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, and from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 22, at Sacred Heart Church, 106 N. Dorcas St., Lewistown.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 22, at the church, with Father William Weary officiating.   

Memorial contributions in Diane’s memory may be made to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society of the Sacred Heart Parish, or to the Sacred Heart Church, Attn: Parish Office, 9 N. Brown St., Lewistown PA 17044.
