Doris E. McCurry, 95, of Reedsville, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019, at Valley View Haven.
Born April 13, 1923, in Los Angeles, California, she was the daughter of the late Earl C. and Agnes (Vail) Payton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her first husband, George W. Elder III, and her second husband, John E. McCurry, and a brother, Robert V. Payton.
She is survived by: children, Sandra Jenkinson, and husband, Harold, of Reedsville, Cynthia Totura and husband, George, of Illinois, Doris Diane “D.D.” Thompson and husband, Rodney, of Tennessee; six grandchildren, Jennifer Cormier, and husband, Tim, Christian Jenkinson, John Totura, Allison Totura and fiance, Damon Shattuck, Alexander Totura and wife, Jessica, Scott Thompson and wife, Brittany; and six great-grandchildren.
Doris was a 1941 graduate of Overbrook High School in Philadelphia. In 1945, she received her Bachelor of Science degree from The Pennsylvania State University.
She was a member of the East Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church.
She was employed with the Mifflin County School District as a home economics teacher at the Chief Logan High School.
Doris was a member of AAUW, the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for teachers, and the Penn State Alumni Associations. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and she loved traveling the world.
A receiving of friends will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, March 15, 2019, at the East Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church, 100 Walnut St., Reedsville, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Pat Roller officiating.
Interment will take place at St. Mark’s Cemetery, Lewistown.
Arrangements are under the care of Heller- Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.
