Elizabeth Betlyon Obituary

Elizabeth J. Betlyon, 94, formerly of Burnham, passed away on June 25, 2018, at Ohesson Manor Nursing Home.

Born Feb. 18, 1924, in Snyder County, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Gertrude Stimely.

Her husband, Walter G. Betlyon, preceded her in death on May 20, 1973. She was also preceded in death by: two infant children; four brothers, Park Stimely, James Stimely, Harry Stimely and John Stimely; and one sister, Pearl Olnick.

Surviving is a daughter, Linda Kochenderfer, of Burnham; a son, Thomas Betlyon, of Juniata County; a sister, Grace Rager, of West Virginia; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

One of the delights of Elizabeth’s life was having the opportunity as a great-grandmother to share in the joy of babysitting her great-grandson, Steven.

While caring for her husband for six years as he battled cancer, Betty gained the experience to work for Sun Home Community Service, retiring in 1985.

After her retirement, she filled her days with her love of cooking and baking. All of her creations were delicious, especially her pies. If anyone was sick, she would make some of her fantastic bread pudding.

Per Betty’s request, there will be no viewing and a private memorial service is being planned by the family, with Pastor Mike Seigler officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ohesson Manor Nursing Home, 276 Green Ave. Extended, Lewistown, or Freedom Avenue Methodist Church, 513 Freedom Avenue, Burnham.

Arrangements are under the care of Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, First Ave., Burnham.
