Glenn Righter Obituary

Glenn A. Righter, 93, of Derry Township, Lewistown, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at his home.

Born Sept. 30, 1925, in Reedsville, he was a son of the late Fred Bruce Righter and Bernice Hassinger (Moyer) Righter.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: a grandson, Donovan Righter; a brother, Charles Righter; and sisters, Marian Kipp, Edith Mazuc and Dorothy Woomer Jacobs.

Glenn is survived by: his wife, Kay C. (Rodkey) Righter, whom he married July 11, 1991; five children, Bruce E. Righter and wife, Barbara, of Middletown, James D. Righter and wife, Arlene, of Carlisle, Mary (Righter) Boulding, of New York, William A. Righter, and David S. Righter, both of Georgia; step-children, Michelle Burkholder and Candi L. Piper, both of Burnham; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and siblings; Virginia (Wagner) Geedy, of Lewisburg, and Richard Righter and wife, Nellie Mae, of York.

He graduated from Yeagertown High School, Class of 1943.

Glenn served in the U.S. Marines as an aviation sergeant during World War II and the Korean Conflict.  During WWII, he participated in the consolidation of the northern Solomon Islands, and operations in the Philippines and Bismarck Archipelago, for which he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with two gold stars.  He participated in 49 aerial bombing mission flights in a B-25 Mitchell against Japanese forces.

He was a self-employed electrician.

Glenn was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the National Rifle Association and National Wild Turkey Federation.  He was an avid fisherman and hunter.  He especially loved to fish and hunt in Canada.

Viewings will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, March 18, 2019, and from 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 North Main Street, Lewistown.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at the funeral home, with Pastor Dick Williams officiating.

Interment will take place at Juniata Memorial Park, with military honors by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown.
