Joseph W. ‘Wes’ Briggs, 88, of Lewistown, passed away at 9:55 p.m., Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Ohesson Manor.      

Born May 11, 1929, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Harry and Ethel (Young) Briggs.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his two brothers and three sisters, Harry William “Bill” Briggs Jr., Fredrick Briggs, Euzene Kepner, Patricia Goss, and Jean Briggs Ashford, and was the last of his immediate family.

Wes is survived by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great nieces and great-great-nephews.

Wes served in both the U.S. Army from 1945-1948 during World War II, and the Air Force from 1951-1955 with the 1401st Motor Vehicle Squadron, Andrews AFB, during the Korean Conflict.  

He obtained his private pilot’s license in 1948 and enjoyed flying and studying aircraft for over fifty years.  

Wes was employed as a yardman by Marlette Homes, retiring in 1991.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 13, at Belleville Lutheran Cemetery, with Rev. Randy Traxler officiating.  Military honors will be provided by VFW Post 7011, Lewistown. 

Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
