Roberta Aurand Obituary

Roberta Jean (Peeler) Aurand, 84, of Lewistown, entered into her rest and the joy of God's glorious presence on June 6, 2019, at her home surrounded by loved ones.

Roberta was born in Milroy, Pa. to the late Robert and Eleanor (Reed) Peeler on May 5, 1935.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, John Peeler.

Roberta is survived by: husband of 64 years, Roy L. Aurand; children, Sharon (Ross) Brode, of Reedsville, Leslie (Mark) Fink, of Lewistown, and Joe (Lynn) Aurand, of Shamokin Dam; grandchildren, Kristie (Robert) McKnight, of Reedsville, Dustin (Jennifer) Fink, of N.C., Jillian (Dan) Kochenderfer, of Lewistown, Caleb Aurand, of Tx., Michael (Alex Strunk) Brode, of Burnham, Hannah Aurand, of Va., and David Aurand, of Chester, Pa.; great-grandchildren, Austin and Logan McKnight, Marlo and Brody Fink, Crue, Lila and Aven Kochenderfer, Ava and Carson Brode; sister, Carolyn (Bill) Shoop, of Belleville; sister-in-law, Dale Peeler, of Millmont; and extended family members.

Roberta was a graduate of Armagh Brown Joint High School Class of 1953.  Her secretarial work began at First National Bank in Lewistown and continued at The Pennsylvania State University.  She retired as the church secretary from Grace United Methodist Church in Lewistown.

Her Christian faith led to opportunities to teach Bible classes, lead prayer meetings and mentor new Christians.  She served as an elder at Grace Covenant Church of Lewistown.  Roberta will be forever remembered by her church family and dear friends.

Roberta's passion in life was to encourage faith in a faithful God.  Early on, she dedicated her children to God and encouraged them to follow after Him, seek His goodness and learn His word.  She was a mom, grandmother and a great-grandmother, intercessor, confidant, and so much more to those around her.  Family brought her the greatest joy.  She loved picnics at state parks, mountain hikes, greenhouse visits and beach vacations with her family.  Flower gardening was the "therapy that kept on giving."

As Roberta was nearing her end-of-life journey, she encouraged her family by sharing the scripture, John 14:1-3, "Don't let your hearts be troubled.  You believe in God; believe also in me.  My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am."

Many thanks are extended to Family Hospice and Palliative Care team, Betsy, her private caregiver, and dear friends who provided for Roberta's needs.

In keeping with Roberta's wishes, all funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of her family.

A Celebration of Life for Roberta will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Grace Covenant Church, 205 Washington Avenue, Lewistown, with Pastor Ron Neff officiating.  Family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until the time of the service.
