Thomas Charles Zanylo, 70, of Petersburg, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital.
Born April 25, 1947, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Charles and Anna (Helwig) Zanylo.
Thomas is survived by: wife, Marcia H. (Harris) Zanylo, whom he married, Dec. 29, 1969; children, Thomas Charles Zanylo Jr. and wife, Kathie, of Maryland, and Heather (Zanylo) Waterman and husband, Rick, of Maryland; grandchildren, Connor Zanylo, Cailyn Zanylo, Grace Waterman, and Kyle Waterman; sibling, Connie (Zanylo) Mitchell and husband, David, of Lewistown; niece, Patricia (Mitchell) Wagner and husband, Eric, of Mifflinburg; nephew, David A. Mitchell and wife, Gina, of Lewistown; great-nephews, Thomas Wagner and Andrew Mitchell; stepgreat-nephews, Nate Copenhaver, Nick Copenhaver.
Thomas was a Chief Logan High School graduate, Class of 1965. He received a BA in education from Penn State in 1970.
Growing up he attended Sacred Heart School and was a member of Sacred Heart Church.
Thomas was an art teacher at Philipsburg Osceola High School. He was head of the art department and an art teacher in Mifflin County. Later, he owned/operated Laurel Construction Inc., in Frederick, Md., for about 20 years.
He enjoyed being with family and friends, fishing and hunting, cooking, coaching football and was a collector of Lionel O-Gauge trains.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes Inc., 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, Woodlawn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 106 N. Dorcas St., Lewistown, with Father William Weary and Father Samuel E. Houser officiating.
Interment will be in Birch Hill Cemetery.
Memorials in Thomas’ name may be made to the Sacred Heart School, Attn: Parish Office, 9 N. Brown St., Lewistown.
