Wallace D. "Dewey" Barnes, 84, of Lewistown, passed away Friday, November 8, 2019, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born July 11, 1935, in a trolley car in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Wallace L. and Lillian I. (Carlin) Barnes.
Dewey is survived by: his wife, Cathy (McLucas) Barnes; children, Deb Harshbarger, of Mifflintown, Lori Bagley and husband, Elmer, of Duncansville, Bill Barnes, of Lewistown, and Melissa McCarthy and husband, Frank, of N.Y.; stepson, Jamie McNemar and wife, Beth, of Lewistown; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brothers, Donald Barnes and wife, Betty, of Ohio, and Dallas Barnes and wife, Joanne, of Calif.
Dewey graduated from Lewistown High School, Class of 1953, and completed the vocational technical program.
He was founder and owner of Barnes Machine Shop in Glenwood. Dewey loved Stanley steamer cars and was instrumental in setting numerous steam car and motorcycle world records. He was also an avid builder and flyer of model airplanes.
A viewing will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Weds., Nov. 13, 2019, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
