William Logan Jr. Obituary

William H. “Bill” Logan, Jr., 74 of Lewistown passed away Friday, June 14, 2019, at his home. Born on May 29, 1945, in Lewistown to the late William and Eliza (Spangle) Logan, he graduated from Chief Logan High School in 1963 and Shippensburg State College in 1969, where he was a member of the Sigma Pi fraternity. He served in the Army Reserve from 1967 to 1971. He was a science teacher at Lewistown Junior High School from 1969 to 1976, where he was also an assistant basketball coach. He owned and operated Leoras Cafeteria in downtown Lewistown until 2001. Leoras served as a hub of Mifflin County social activity for 26 years, and regular customers came not just for the food, but also for Bill’s larger-than-life personality and the community atmosphere he fostered at the cafeteria.

Following his retirement from the restaurant business, Bill served as a substitute teacher in the Mifflin County School District. He enjoyed the daily interaction with students and is remembered for his caring attitude, and for offering solid guidance and wisdom to young adults as they planned for their futures.

He was a longtime member of Saint John’s Lutheran Church, where over the years he held numerous leadership positions. Most recently, he was the treasurer of the Barnabas Brothers, the church’s men’s service group. He was also an enthusiastic supporter of the Mifflin County Historical Society and served as its treasurer. He prepared food for Meals on Wheels as well.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Pamela; son Dr. William H. Logan III and wife Allison of Fletcher, North Carolina; daughter Dr. Patricia Logan Farley and husband Jonathan of Milroy; grandchildren Anna and Henry Logan, and Sarah and Nevin Farley.

Bill was a fixture in the Lewistown community and was known for a strong work ethic and his generous nature. He was a true patriot who loved the United States of America and its military. He liked working outside and traveling. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and doted on the love of his life, Pam. Bill had a wide circle of close friends and enjoyed socializing with them frequently. He was a great conversationalist and a straight shooter who was always eager to offer opinions on a wide variety of topics. But most of all, Bill truly enjoyed people, and for those who knew him and for those who were fortunate to call him a friend, husband or father, he will be sorely missed.
