B. Hughes Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of B. Jane Hughes, 98, of Silverford Heights Mount Union.  Jane passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday, December 30, 2024.

Born on December 10, 1926, in Three Springs, she was the daughter of the late Orin and Ethel (Snyder) Park.  She met and married the love of her life Edward D. Hughes on December 2, 1946.  He preceded her in death in February 1998.

She is survived by her daughter Candace D. McNitt and husband, Andy, of Mount Union; grandchildren, John E. Alexander of Mount Union, Lisa D. Swanger and husband, Pete, of Mapleton; great-grandchildren, Derek King, of East Berlin, Zachary Alexander, of Maui, HI, Cassidy Alexander and husband Seth Falkinburg, of Boulder, CO.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by siblings, Jean Orth, Shirley Bollinger, Joyce Clippinger, Orin ‘Sonny’ Park, and Sandra Grove.  Jane was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Jane will be remembered for her love of family, her kindness, her strong will, and her unwavering stubbornness and amazing toughness.  She was known by many of her family and friends as “Mammy Jane” and “Aunt Jane”.  She was so proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren; they meant the world to her.

She also had a great love for all her nieces and nephews.  She was especially fond of her great-great niece Isla Pearl Nash, of Scranton, who always brought a smile to her face and much joy to her heart.

Jane had such a green thumb and was an avid gardener earlier in her life and enjoyed being outside in the yard, mowing the grass , including “The North Forty”, and tending to her flowers.

She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends.  She loved camping with her family at Cowan’s Gap State Park.

She was an absolutely fantastic story teller and loved telling stories about her younger life and all of her travels and adventures.  Her family always looked forward to hearing those stories, many of which they could recite word for word.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Children’s Clothing Bank at the Presbyterian Church, 2 E. Shirley St., Mt. Union, PA 17066  in Jane’s memory.

Cremation will be under the direction of the Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home of Lewistown. Jane’s final resting place will be with her husband at the Three Springs Cemetery in Three Springs, PA.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
