Barbara Jean (Markley) Hannon

Barbara Jean Hannon, 84, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Greenwood Village Nursing Home in Lewistown.

Barbara “Barb” was born on July 4, 1939, in Lewistown, to the late Malcolm and Grace Markley.  She was the oldest of four children.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Daniel “Paul” Hannon, whom she married Oct. 8, 1966, in Sept. 2015; son, Timothy Hannon; sister, Mary Crowder; brother-in-law, Carl Crowder; and her beloved dog, Patsy.

Barb is survived by: son, Gregory Hannon and wife, Julie, of Burnham; their children, Jared Hannon, and Zanna Matthews and husband, Mitch; daughter-in-law, Danielle Hannon, of Tunkhannock; her children, Kaya, McKenzie, and Kianna; great-grandson, Beckett Matthews; brother, Daniel “Pete” Markley and wife, Sally, of Lewistown; sister, Judy Bearley and husband, Haven, of Pittsburgh; and many nieces and nephews.

Barb was a graduate of Lewistown High School.  After graduation, she trained to become an airline stewardess.  Although she never worked as a stewardess, Barb enjoyed traveling with her husband, spending time with family, and reading.  She was employed locally as a salesclerk at Glick's Shoes, Jamesway, and Walmart, in Lewistown.

She was a member of Evangel Baptist Church.

Barb was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.  It was fitting that her birthday fell on July 4th because she was a firecracker.  Her quick wit and stubbornness will be fondly remembered by her family and caregivers.  She knew how to make people laugh, even through her battle with dementia.

A viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to Noon, Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 North Main Street, Lewistown, followed by the funeral service at Noon with Pastor Justin Whitenight officiating.

Interment will take place at Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.
