It is with great sadness and much love, the family of Barbara Ann Hertzler, 88, announces her peaceful passing at her home on June 14, 2026. Born November 22, 1937, in Lewistown, she was the daughter of the late Carl F. and Marguerite M. (Welch) Musser.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson B. Hertzler.
Barb is survived by her children, Karin Hertzler, of Burnham, and Jeffrey Hertzler and Robin Hertzler, both of Lewistown; her sister, Janie Reynolds (Barry), of Linglestown; as well as cherished nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
A 1955 graduate of Chief Logan High School and a graduate of Harrisburg Polyclinic Nursing School, Barb dedicated her life to caring for others. She served as a registered nurse at Lewistown Hospital —beginning in the maternity ward, continuing for many years in the ER, and later working in the orthopedic office of Dr. West. Her compassion, steadiness, and skill touched countless lives.
Barb was a Methodist by faith.
Earlier in life, she loved traveling and spending time at the beach. She enjoyed yard sales, working on puzzles, and found joy in feeding the squirrels, deer, turkeys, and birds that visited her home. These simple pleasures reflected her appreciation for life’s quiet beauty.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 19, 2026, at Birch Hill Cemetery, with Pastor Chris Lutz officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rescue Our Furry Friends (ROFF), PO Box 6, Lewistown, PA 17044.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Ascera Care Hospice Care Givers for the compassionate care and comfort they provided.
May Barb’s memory be a blessing, and may those who loved her find peace in the legacy of kindness, service, and love she leaves behind.
Arrangements are under the care of Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., Burnham.
