Betty V. Tate’s life journey came to a peaceful conclusion, fittingly, on her 92nd birthday, completing her circle of life on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born on January 1, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Walter W. Wise and Dorothy Mae (Grassmyer) Price; step-father, Harvey E. Price.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard E. Tate Sr.; son, Gary Lee Tate; three brothers and four sisters; son-in-law, James Youtzy; daughter-in-law, Denise Tate.
She is survived by children, Connie Ann Frohm and husband, Bob, of McClure, Deborah Bufalini, of Lewistown, Sue Ellen Youtzy, of Granville, Nancy Tate, of Lewistown, Wendy Jo Gregg, of Lewistown, Leonard E. Tate Jr., of McClure, and Jodie Tate, of Lewistown; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 29 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Sunderland and companion, Randy Ritchey, of McVeytown.
In her earlier years, Betty worked at Empire Kosher and retired after 25 years of service.
Betty found great fulfillment in attending church at Grace Covenant. Her faith was important to her, and she valued the sense of community and spiritual nourishment she received from her church family.
She treasured every moment spent with her loved ones. Being surrounded by family brought Betty immense happiness, and she relished the joy that came from the memories they built together. Cooking was one of Betty’s greatest passions. She took delight in preparing delicious meals that brought her family together around the table, creating warmth and comfort with every dish she served. Betty also enjoyed collecting bells, finding pleasure in adding to her unique and cherished collection.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.
A second viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, Woodlawn, with at funeral service to follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Barbara Mannino officiating.
Interment will take place at Birch Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
