Bonnie Evanitsky Obituary

Bonnie J. Evanitsky, 77 of Lewistown passed away Monday, December 28, 2020, at her home in Lewistown.  Born June 5, 1943 in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Erma (Cavanaugh) Haywood.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Albert (Bud) Haywood, Donald Haywood, Joyce McCracken, Joan Purcell, and Carol Kersteiner.

She is survived by her husband, Francis J. Evanitsky, whom she married on October 6, 1962. Two sons, Gregory Evanitsky and wife, Trisha, of Milroy, and Douglas Evanitsky and wife, April, of Enola.  Two granddaughters, Rebecca Evanitsky, Milroy, and Jennifer Marsh and husband, James, of Canonsburg, and siblings, Richard Haywood, of Blue Ridge Summit, and Jane Shank, of Altoona.

Bonnie was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.  She was a graduate of Chief Logan High School Class of 1961. Earlier in life, she worked at Danks Department Store and Horizon Savings and Loan. Bonnie enjoyed needlepoint, quilting, arts and crafts, and gardening.  She was an excellent quilter and was a former member of the Juniata Valley Quilters Guild.  Bonnie was also a previous member of the Lewistown Garden Club. She was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time at home tending to her flowers and her family.  Bonnie loved her family, especially her granddaughters and very much enjoyed spending time with them. 

Arrangements are under the care of Heller Hoenstine Funeral Home, Burnham.  

Services are private and at the convenience of the family due to the strict COVID 19 practices that are in effect.  Intermittent will be at Birch Hill Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bonnie’s memory to UPMC Family Hospice, 20 Sheraton Drive, Altoona, PA 16601; the ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter, 321 Norristown Road, Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002; or Sacred Heart Church, 9 North Brown Street, Lewistown, PA 17044.
