Charles B. Matthews, 91, of McVeytown, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2026, at his home.
Born April 15, 1934, in Honeygrove, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Dorothy (Boone) Matthews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, John E. Matthews, Shirley Hoover, Melvin Matthews, Donna Peck; grandchildren, Dennis Jack Flasher, Tara Beth Matthews; nephew, Kenneth Matthews; and a brother-in-law, Howard Hoover; sons-in-law, Dennis J. Flasher and Dennis Boozel.
He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Betty G. (Johnston) Matthews; children, Charles A. Matthews, of McVeytown, Rocky Matthews and wife, Tamara, of McClure, Sunday Boozel, of McVeytown, Peggy Snyder and husband, Robert, of McVeytown, Michael Matthews, of McVeytown, Jon Matthews, of Idaho; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Robert Matthews and wife, Pauline, of Palmyra, James Matthews and wife, Dorothy, of Lewistown, Mary Schueck, of Lewistown, Connie Matthews, of Reedsville, Ronnie Matthews and wife, Cindy, of McVeytown, Kenneth Matthews, of McVeytown; numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Thelma (Sammy), and May; and a brother-in-law, Samuel.
Charles was an active member of Otelia Mennonite Church. He dedicated time to teaching Sunday school and Bible School, and made it a point to pick up all the children for Sunday school.
Charles was a United States Army National Guard veteran.
He worked at Pa Glass and sand plant, Harbeson Walker brick yard, Mack Truck Inc., he owned his own carpentry business for many years and lastly he worked as a supervisor at Trinity Plastics.
He loved God and his family dearly and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family, with interment held at Otelia Mennonite Cemetery with Rev. Robert Boswell officiating.
Arrangements are under the care of Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.
