On June 24, 2024, Clare Teresa (Sheller) Martin, 94, of Lewistown, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones. Clare lived a full and warm life, filled with joy and gratitude. She will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
Clare was the daughter of Catherine (Smyth) and William J. Sheller. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Joseph H. Martin Jr., and her eight brothers and sisters – William, Charles, Howard, Jean, Vincent, Catherine, Florence and Joseph.
Clare is survived by all seven of her children, Joseph and his love Katy Hohol, James and his (deceased) love Linda Hughes, Jean and husband Glenn Wolf, Kathleen and husband Brian Royer, Mary Jane and husband Peter Hryniewicz, Thomas and husband Barry Peacock, and Patricia and husband Robert Kobzowicz Jr. Also surviving, among other relatives, are many wonderful nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Clare grew up in West Chester and attended St. Agnes High School. She graduated from Misericordia Hospital and became a Registered Nurse in the 1950’s. After staying home to raise her children, she enjoyed working for over 30 years as a Labor and Delivery night nurse at Lewistown Hospital.
Claire was a faithful member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Lewistown, since 1963. She loved singing in the choir with her choir friends, as well as working at the Thrift Shop for the Church. All who knew Clare experienced the joy and warmth she brought to every conversation.
A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, June 28, 2024, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 106 N. Dorcas St., Lewistown, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with Father Kevin Coyle officiating.
Interment will take place at Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church-Capital Campaign Fund, c/o Parish Office, 9 N. Brown St., Lewistown, PA 17044; St. Matthew Catholic Church, 607 Stoney Creek Dr., Dauphin, PA 17018; or a charity of one’s choosing.
