Dean C. Steele, 89, of Lewisburg and formerly of Burnham, passed away at 11:32 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village in Lewisburg.
Born Feb. 10, 1935, in Wilkes Barre, he was the son of the late Warren A. and Dorothy A. (Wherry) Steele. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Dale C. (Steele) Smith.
Surviving are: nieces, Lara Smith and Lori Wagner; nephew, Lorne Smith; five great-nieces and great-nephews; and seven great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
He was a Burnham High School graduate, Class of 1955.
Dean was a U.S. Army veteran who served from May 28,1957 to May 27, 1960 as an Admin Clerk at Fort Holabird, Md.
He was a member of Rhodes Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served on the Administrative Board, and a lifetime member of the Juniata Valley YMCA in Burnham.
He retired from Standard Steel in 1997 after 32 years of service and was a Union Officer for Local 2921 for many years.
Prior to the onset of dementia, Dean enjoyed traveling and attending live theatre performances. He looked forward to meeting his former co-workers for breakfast and enjoyed close relationships with his friends and neighbors on Dry Valley Road. Dean was a lifelong Phillies baseball fan.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, 108 First Avenue, Burnham.
The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Burnham Funeral Home, with Reverend Steven Small officiating.
Interment will take place at Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown, with military honors by the Juniata Valley Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dean’s memory may be made to Juniata Valley YMCA, 105 1st Avenue, Burnham, PA 17009.
