Dervin Kelley Obituary

Dervin Franklin Kelley, 83, of McVeytown, passed away at 1:13 p.m., Friday, April 22, 2022, at his home.

Born Feb. 23, 1939, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Dervin J. and Pauline (Fuller) Kelley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Alice (Stong) Kelley; two granddaughters, Sierra and Tiah Kelley; and a sister, Janet Zea.

Dervin is survived by:  sons, Phillip Kelley and wife, Laura, of Carlisle, and James Kelley, of Lewistown; six grandchildren, Cheyenne Kelley, Aiden and Alex Platzer, Shana Grassmyer, Phillip Kelley and Marley Cole; eight great-grandchildren, Xavier Stimely, Wyatt and Salem Platzer, Sindy Henderson, Niayiah Kelley, Airella and Aubrie McCartney, and Ziva Grassmyer;  siblings, Virginia Swartz, of Mifflintown, Harold Kelley, of Texas, Russell Kelley and wife, Ursulla, of Lancaster, and Martha Jane Kline and husband, Robert, of York; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a graduate of Juniata Joint High School, Class of 1957.

Dervin was an Air Force veteran.  He served from April 1958 to June 1962 with the 38th Air Police Squadron at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey.

He was a member of McVeytown United Methodist Church.

He held multiple jobs throughout his life and was lastly employed by Walmart for 14 years before retiring.

Dervin’s family respected and admired him for the wonderful man he was.  He would give anyone the shirt off his back.  He enjoyed long walks, picking mulberries and John Deere tractors.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan Street, Lewistown, is in charge of arrangements.
