Dorothy W. Gesselman, 99, of McClure, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021.
Born on November 28, 1921, in Elizabethtown, PA, she was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Tarrent) Stuart.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by, her husband of 53 years, Edwin L. Gesselman, he passed away on April 26, 1996; and a brother, John Stuart.
She is survived by; children, Patricia Ann Eward and husband, Robert, of Lewistown, Donna Jean Allocco and husband, Andrew, FL., Linda Lee Bionti and husband, Vincent, of Oakmont, PA, and Edwin S. Gesselman and wife, Maria, of West Deer; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Dorothy attended Paintersville C&MA Church.
In her earlier years, she worked as a secretary at Edgewater Steel, and a waitress at Fox Chapel Country Club. She was a volunteer for many years with the Mifflin County Salvation Army.
Dorothy was an avid gardener, artistic quilter, and an energetic volunteer for the Salvation Army. She led her life by example and lived by the Golden Rule. There was never a job too large or too small that she would not tackle. She had a life-long love of learning, and an acceptance of everyone and refusal to judge or dismiss anyone. She was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman, and had a multitude of friends. We will miss her every day.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 28, 2021, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, 108 First Ave., Burnham.
A second viewing will be held from 10 to 11 am., Saturday, May 29, 2021, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m., at the funeral home, with Rev. John Lucas officiating.
Interment will be held at Lind Memorial Cemetery.
