Elizabeth Louise ‘Betty’ McCartney, 100, a resident of Greenwood Village, Lewistown, passed away at 7:20 p.m., Monday, December 25, 2023, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born May 11, 1923, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary (Ascione) Attivo.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard K. “Dick” McCartney, Dec. 21, 2004; grandson, Sean McCartney; three brothers, Ralph, Albert, and Joseph Attivo; four sisters, Rose Palmeri, Anne Attivo, Thelma Attivo, and Helen Dixon; and daughter-in-law, Mary McCartney.
Betty is survived by: children, R. Daniel McCartney and wife, Kathy, of Lewistown, Kathy Shively and husband, Jim, of Shippensburg, and Timothy A. McCartney, of Mechanicsburg; five grandchildren, Jennifer Wilkes, Ryan McCartney and wife, Kylene, Kristina Younker and husband, Jason, Lauren McCartney, and Leah McCartney; and four great-grandchildren, Darian, Camren, Keaton, and Avery.
She was a graduate of Lewistown High School.
Betty was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.
She was employed locally by Suburban Gas Company for 23 years, then worked at Russell National Bank for three years before retiring in 1980.
Betty enjoyed playing cards and working crossword puzzles. She was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to a variety of music.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 1:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 29, 2023, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 North Main Street, Lewistown.
A Mass of Christian Burial (MCB) service will begin at 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 29, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 106 North Dorcas Street, Lewistown, with Father William Weary officiating.
Interment will take place at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024, at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, where Betty will be laid to rest beside her husband.
The family will provide all flowers. Memorial contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, c/o Parish Office, 9 North Brown Street, Lewistown, PA 17044.
