Gary Lee Greenaway, Sr., 79, of Lewistown, Pennsylvania, peacefully passed away at his home on July 3, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on March 14, 1946 in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Violet (Pearson) Klinger and Howard Greenaway.

On September 8, 1962, Gary married the love of his life, and high school sweetheart, Janet A. Knouse, embarking on a remarkable 62-year journey of love, partnership, and unwavering support. He is also survived by; his children, Gary Greenaway Jr., of Johnstown, and Penny (John) Zesiger, of Reedsville; loving grandchildren, Heather (Drew) Eddy and Justin Adams; a great-grandson, Charlie Eddy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, James Klinger; brothers, Dan, Terry, and Eugene Greenaway; sisters, Sandra Pheasant, Joyce Thomas and Rosaline Steffy.

A 1964 graduate of West Snyder High School, he excelled as a three-sport athlete, showcasing his talent and athleticism in soccer, basketball, and baseball.

He contributed his skills and talents to various employers, including Visco, Standard Steel, Lear, and Reed's Gap State Park retiring in 2013, after a life dedicated to honest labor.

Gary especially loved spending time with family, attending grandchildren’s activities, hunting, riding motorcycle, and wood-working, fishing, and just being outdoors.

He will always be remembered as a man with a wonderful sense of humor, whose goofy antics would make everyone laugh. He absolutely loved his family and would do anything for them. His devotion and willingness to go above and beyond for those he loved made him truly special. His legacy of love and laughter will live on in his family's hearts forever.

Visitation will be held July 10, 2025, from 4:00-6:00 p.m., at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with a memorial service to follow at 6:00 p.m., with Chaplain Travis Stauffer officiating. There will be no graveside service.
