George M. Heath, 97, of Granville Township, passed away Friday, Sept. 27, 2019, at his home.
Born July 16, 1922, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Robert W. and Beatrice E. (Werner) Heath. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Joyce A. (Smith) Heath, March 23, 2003; brothers, Lester, Robert and Harold Heath; sisters, Helen Laub, Thelma Waters, Edith Glick Brower, Arla Wagner, Mabel Fultz and Patricia Grose; and a son-in-law, Bradley Wieland.
George is survived by: daughters, Cathy Wieland, of Palmyra, Debra Reinhard, of Enola, and Judith Geyer and husband, Steven, of Halifax; six grandchildren, Bethany Williams and husband, Michael, Thomas Reinhard and wife, Heidi, Jill Reinhard Yeager and husband, Jason, Elyse Talton and husband, Michael, Stacey Geyer and Eric Geyer; five great-grandchildren, Jayna Reinhard, Noah Reinhard, Logan Halterman, Laney Yeager and June Talton; great-great-granddaughter, Violet June Reinhard; and siblings, Harry Heath, of Hershey, and Doris Forsythe and husband, Nelson, of Lockport.
He graduated from Lewistown High School, Class of 1941.
George was a World War II Army veteran, who served in the European Theater from January 1943 to December 1945 with the 259th Field Artillery Battalion. He was a field wire chief, Technician 4, and was awarded the Bronze Star for valor.
Early in life, George was employed as a house painter. He retired as a purchasing agent from New Holland with over 37 years of service. After retiring, he was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and Red Cross blood drives.
He was a member of Ellen Chapel Church, where he taught Sunday School classes and sang in the choir. George was an active grange member throughout his life and belonged to Fort Granville Grange 1902, where he was a past master, Pomona Grange 35, Pennsylvania State Grange, the National Grange, and was a member of VFW Post 5935, Belleville.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Sept. 30, 2019, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown.
An additional viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct 1, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m., at Ellen Chapel Church, 11764 Ferguson Valley Road, Lewistown, with Pastor Mark Hill officiating.
Interment will take place at Mount Rock Cemetery, Lewistown, with full military honors.
