George Tracy Totura, 72, of Belleville passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born July 3, 1952, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late John Totura Jr. and Helen Louise Totura.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Susan L. Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Ann Totura, to whom he was married for over 50 years; children, John E. Totura and spouse, Ricky Mendyk, of IL, Dr. Allison L. Totura and husband, Damon G. Shattuck, of Washington D.C., George Alexander Totura and wife, Jessica Ann; grandchildren, Livia, Rolen, and Maren Totura.
Growing up George was a member of Jerusalem Lutheran church in Westminster, Maryland and a 1970 graduate of Catonsville High School. He studied chemical engineering and played lacrosse at the Pennsylvania State University.
After graduation from Penn State, George started his career in industrial chemical cleaning for Dow industrial Services until 1977. He became a global water treatment expert working for Betz Laboratories from 1977-1993, Eichrom Technologies from 1994-1997, and finally at Ecolab (Nalco division), where he retired in 2018. During his career he taught classes focusing on water treatment domestically and internationally for the Center of Professional Advancement, authored articles published in professional journals and was awarded two U.S. patents while employed at Nalco.
All his adult life, he enjoyed being outdoors gardening. As an avid sports enthusiast, he coached soccer, basketball and baseball, was a Baltimore Ravens and lifelong Baltimore Orioles fan. As a Penn Stater, he especially enjoyed following Penn State football, wrestling and volleyball.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at East Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church, 100 Walnut St., Reedsville, with a celebration of life service to follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Ela Robertson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in George's memory to: East Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church or St. Mark's Episcopal Church.
Arrangements are under the care of Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown.
