Gerald I. ‘Jerry’ Freed, 83, of Lewistown, died Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born October 13, 1941, in Lumber City, he was the son of the late John L. Freed and Margaret E. (Specht) Freed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth M. (Sowers) Freed; an infant son, Douglas P. Freed; siblings; Norman and Ed Freed, Priscilla Miller.
Jerry is survived by his children; Brian L. Freed and wife, Jennifer, of Lewistown, Pamela J. Yetter of Florida., Keri A. Sowers and husband, Reggie Freed, of Reedsville; grandchildren, Ashley Yetter, of Morocco, Nathan Yetter and wife, Kayla, of Lewistown and Adam Freed, of Reedsville; great-grandchildren, Parker and Paislee Yetter, of Lewistown, and Emiline Young; sister, Jean Artman, of Belleville.
He retired from Marlette Homes and was the owner/operator of J&D’s Lawn Service.
Jerry cherished every moment with his grandchildren and was known for being the best involved father and grandfather. He found enjoyment in mowing the lawn, hunting and working on his cars. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.
Services are private and at the convenience of the family.
Interment will be at Birch Hill Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care of Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan Street, Lewistown.
