Major Herbert B. Hamilton Jr, 89, of Lewistown, passed away on January 20, 2025, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born on August 9, 1935, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Herbert B. Hamilton Sr. and Sara (Siebert) Hamilton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Clarence W. Hamilton, Helen J. ‘Honey’ Hamilton, and Elsie Mae Ramsey.
He is survived by his wife, Caroline ‘Rea’ (Faulds) Hamilton, whom he married July 18, 1959; son, Herbert B. Hamilton III, of Cleveland, Ohio; and a sister, Ruth Broome and husband, Robert, of Lewistown.
Herb attended Lewistown High School.
In his earlier years, he worked at Dank’s Department Store and served as a cook in the Army National Guard.
In 1957, Herb entered the Salvation Army School for Officers Training. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in 1958 and spent most of his career as a Salvation Army officer in New England until retiring in 1999.
Herb was a member of the Salvation Army Lewistown Corps. He enjoyed attending the Lewistown Senior Center at Knepp Avenue, where he played the piano and entertained patrons.
A viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to noon, Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 North Main Street, Lewistown, immediately followed by a promotion to glory service, at the Funeral Home, with Major Robert Goding officiating.
Interment will take place at Mount Rock Cemetery.
