Ida C. Wheeler, 89, of Ohesson Manor, formerly from Mount Rock Commons, was called home to heaven Tuesday, August 4, 2020.
She was born on April 26, 1931, in Burnham, to the late Cloyd F. and Mary R. (Baumgardner) Shilling.
She was preceded in death by: husbands, James Bender, who passed in 1988 and Robert E. Wheeler, who passed in 1999; a son, Joseph E. Mellinger; a step-daughter, Nancy Weese; and three brothers, Charles Miller, Harry F. Shilling, Cloyd W. Shilling and Richard E. Shilling
She is survived by: children, Robert E. Mellinger and wife, Jane, of Lewistown, Mary R. Spagnoletti and husband, John, of Burnham, Richard A. Mellinger and wife, Peggy, of Lewistown and John H. Mellinger and wife, Laurie, of Lewistown; step-children, David Bender and wife, Penne, and Judy Romig, both of Lewistown, Barbara Wheeler and Tina Boylard; brothers, Kenneth Shilling and James Shilling and wife, Geraldine, of Lewistown; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren.
Ida was a member of the Maitland Church of the Brethren, where she was a member of the Ladies Missionary Class.
Earlier in life, she worked as a waitress at Dutch’s Diner and Tony’s Cottage Inn. She was lastly employed at Scotty’s Fashions, and she volunteered with Hospice for many years.
She loved music all her life and, in her youth, she played violin, piano, and the French horn. Ida loved to read and was the owner of many books that she liked to share. She enjoyed spending time at her camper.
A viewing will be held from 10 am to 11 am, Friday, August 7, 2020, at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown, with a funeral service to follow at 11 am, with Rev. Charles Eldredge officiating.
Interment will take place at Juniata Memorial Park.
