James P. 'Herb' Berrier

James P. ‘Herb’ Berrier, 73, of Mifflintown, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday June 30, 2026.

Born September 20, 1952, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Roy E. Berrier Sr. and Marjorie E. (Stuter) Berrier.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard ‘Dick’ Berrier, Roger Berrier, and Roy Berrier Jr.; and a great-granddaughter, Lilah.

He is survived by his children, Nicole Berrier, of Biglerville, Michael L. Berrier, of Spring Grove, Thomas J. Berrier, of Mifflintown; grandchildren, Kayla, Alex, and Natasha; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Sofia, Silas, Leilan and Leon; brothers, David Berrier and wife, Paula, Edward Knepp and wife, Darlene, both of Lewistown.

He was a lifetime member of National Rifle Association.

A 1970 graduate of Lewistown High School, he went on to serve his country proudly as a United States Air Force Veteran.

He was co‑owner of Roy E. Berrier and Sons, a family‑owned company founded in 1935 by his father, Roy E. Berrier Sr. Working in a company built by the hands of those who came before him meant something to James. It wasn’t just a job—it was a legacy, a continuation of the Berrier name and the values his father instilled.

In earlier years, he found freedom on the open road riding his Harley motorcycle. He loved the thrill of sprint car racing on dirt tracks, the quiet patience of hunting, and the satisfaction of adding a new coin to his growing collection. He was happiest outdoors, tending to his yard with the kind of care that made it clear he took pride in the space he called home. And he had a soft spot for his cats, who brought him companionship and comfort.

A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, July 10, 2026, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Home, Woodlawn, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with a funeral service to follow with Rev. Bernard Carpenter officiating.

Interment will take place at Juniata Memorial Park with special military services provided by Juniata County Veterans Council.
