James D. Long Jr. Obituary

James D. Long Jr., 68, of Lewistown, passed away Friday, March 21, 2025, at his home. He passed quickly and quietly, which is not in the least how he lived.

Born September 16, 1956, in Pottstown, PA, he was the son of the late James D. Long Sr., and Esther (Kint) Long, of Pottstown.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife, Karen (Musser) Long; children, James D. Long III and wife, Korry, of Yeagertown, Kate Long and husband, Mike Darerow, of Yeagertown; grandchildren, Coby Long and companion, Katie Beward, Don Jacobs and companion, Christa Hagans, Penny Darerow, Alyssa Jabs; great-grandchildren, Luna Frantz and Cleo Long; siblings, Gary Long and Lucy Long, both of Pottstown; many loving nieces and nephews.

He was a United States Army veteran. Jim lived for his wife and family. He was a two-meat kind of guy who made amazing sammiches. He loved seeing his great-granddaughters and always made sure no one dropped the baby! He was a Phillies and Eagles fan who also kept a close eye on the news. He enjoyed picnics at the lake with his family.

Jim had a vibrant personality. He was your stereotypical curmudgeon who always kept one eye on his lawn. A man once told his wife that she had caught a tiger by the tail and if that wasn’t the most accurate representation of him, I don’t know what would be. He was an entrepreneur and Mack Daddy back in his day. He often reminisced about his wild, crazy lifestyle before starting his new life as a husband, father, diesel mechanic, and truck driver.

Jim had a clear and strong sense of self. He was absolutely that one relative we all have that we either try to hide from or sit next to at the family functions. He spoke the truth and didn’t care who heard it. His grandchildren loved to bring their friends to meet him just to hear his wild stories. He did not disappoint. He was a wisenheimer who could make anyone laugh, especially his wife. He was often wildly inappropriate, which seemed to be part of his appeal, much to the chagrin of his wife and most female family members. His wit and sarcastic nature will be greatly missed, and family functions will surely be dull without his powerful presence.
