James A. Price, Sr., 84, of Belleville, passed away peacefully to be with Jesus, at 7:15 p.m., Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Valley View Retirement Community.
Born April 8, 1940, in Johnstown, he was a son of the late Clair M. and Blanche (Shoemaker) Price.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: wife, Sally A. (Sinclair) Price; sons, Timothy and Mark Price; and siblings, Robert M. Price, Clair J. Price, and Doris Lovekin.
James is survived by: five children, Janice Johnson and husband, Christopher, of Elkton, Md., James A. Price Jr. and wife, Sue, of Lutherville, Md., Judy Peachey and husband, Melvin, of Belleville, Brian M. Price, of Belleville, and Matthew C. Price and wife, Melissa, of Huntingdon; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was a graduate of Franklin High School in Johnstown, Class of 1958.
James was a member of Allensville Mennonite Church.
He served six years in the Pennsylvania National Guard.
James was employed for 33 years at Bethlehem Steel in Johnstown and owned and operated J&S Auto Detailing. He farmed in Bedford County for 14 years, after which he and his family moved to the Big Valley area in Belleville where he continued raising horses and driving for his Amish friends. James was a jack of all trades and loved tinkering on vehicles. He was an outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an avid Steelers fan.
James loved spending time with family and friends, telling stories, and making people laugh. As his health declined, he moved to Valley View, and during his two-year stay, the staff became like family. Special thanks are deserving of Valley View and UPMC Hospice for their wonderful care and brightening James’ days.
A viewing will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 20, 2024, at Valley View Chapel, 4702 East Main Street, Belleville, followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Robert Zook officiating.
Interment will take place at Allensville Amish Mennonite Cemetery.
