Janet Louise Britt, 92, of Lewistown, passed away at 3:10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024, at Valley View Haven, Belleville.
Born Oct. 3, 1932, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Walter J. and Evelyn (LeMay) King.
In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Britt Jr., May 6, 2002; son, Stephen D. Britt; granddaughter, Chelsea Britt; and sisters, JoAnn Carter and Jacqueline Libby.
Janet is survived by: son, Michael J. Britt and wife, Janice, of Burnham; daughter-in-law, Kathy Britt, of Milroy; grandchildren, Mikala Sanchez and husband, David, and Ryan Britt and wife, Ashley; and five great-grandchildren, Connor, Kian, Maggie, Lillian, and Jonah Britt.
She was a Yeagertown High School graduate, Class of 1950, and completed her Registered Nursing Certification at Lewistown Hospital.
Janet was employed throughout her life and retired as a Registered Nurse, first at Lewistown Hospital, then for over 40 years with Dr. Robert Rawdon and Dr. Earnest Baade, and lastly with Dr. Carlos M. Recalde in their Ear, Nose and Throat Practice. After retirement, she did volunteer work at Lewistown Hospital for many years.
Janet was a prolific card player and reader, and a member of numerous card clubs. As the family matriarch, she loved hosting family gatherings and was famous for her Amish baked beans. She was an avid swimmer, enjoyed traveling, and loved Notre Dame football.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, 108 First Avenue, Burnham.
The family will again receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, at Little Valley Presbyterian Church, 1392 Vira Road, Lewistown, followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m., with Reverend Graham Fowler officiating.
Private interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Milroy.
