Janet L. (Moore) Warner, 85, formerly of Yeagertown, unexpectedly entered into eternal life on Friday, Sept. 25, 2020, at the home she shared with her son, granddaughter, and granddaughter’s family in McClure.
Born Aug. 12, 1935, in Barrville, she lived in Yeagertown for most of her life, “up on the hill” for over 50 years. She was a daughter of the late Arvad B. and Lorena E. (Norris) Moore.
In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul J. Warner, whom she married May 4, 1954. They were married for 62 years until his passing in Oct. 2016. Paul lovingly referred to Janet by her middle name, “Laurella”. Also, preceding were brothers, Sherman and Richard Moore.
Surviving are: sons, Rob L. Warner, of McClure, and Danny W. Warner and wife, Lisa (Battista), of Lebanon; four granddaughters, Stephanie Cohick and husband, Adam, of Newburg, Jessica Every and husband, Gary, of New Hope, Brittany Hunter and husband, Tyler, of McClure, and Elizabeth Becker and husband, Anthony, of Carlisle, who dearly loved their “memes”; eight great-grandchildren, Owen, Brett and Jillian Hunter, Oliver, Adelaide and Millicent Cohick, and Warner and Henry Every, who will greatly miss their “great me-me”; and siblings, Betty (Moore) Niman, of Berry’s in Mifflintown, Donald “Danny” Moore and wife, Casey, of Lewistown, Gloria (Moore) Wagner and husband, Ralph, and Ronald “Lenny” Moore and wife, Judy, both of Reedsville.
Janet was a 1954 graduate of Derry Township High School.
She retired from Elder Community Services, a subsidiary of Mifflin-Juniata Area Agency on Aging, where she was employed for more than 10 years as the Milroy Center Manager, Manager of Center-Without-Walls, Clerk and Volunteer Coordinator. Earlier in life, Janet was a sales associate at McMeen’s and The Bon-Ton Department Stores in downtown Lewistown.
Janet was previously a member of the Yeagertown United Methodist Church, where she served on the administrative board and board of trustees and enjoyed assisting with vacation bible school. She was a longtime member of the Yeagertown Hilltop Playground Association and served terms as secretary, treasurer, and president. Her granddaughters fondly remember spending time alongside her while she operated the Hilltop Playground concession stand. Janet was also a past member of the Derry Township Zoning Board.
Janet’s passing leaves a large void in the lives of her family and friends. She especially enjoyed spending time at the seashore and earlier this month was fortunate to spend time with her loved ones at Rehoboth Beach. Janet and Paul enjoyed flower gardening and birdwatching, waiting each spring, along with her mother, to see and report to each other the season’s first hummingbird. Janet and Paul were avid Notre Dame football fans, traveling to numerous games, including South Bend, to cheer the Fighting Irish on to victory!
A viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, Woodlawn, 200 North Main Street, Lewistown. A graveside service at Mount Rock Cemetery, Oakland Avenue, Lewistown, will immediately follow at 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in loving memory of Janet, may be made to the Yeagertown United Methodist Church, 7 N. Mann Ave., PO Box 409, Yeagertown, PA 17099.
